LINES Dance Center Adult Summer Intensive

This June 2017, LINES Dance Center opens its doors for adult dancers of all levels in an immersive, professional-intensity training opportunity: LINES Dance Center Adult Summer Intensive. With both a Technical Foundations Session and a Composition & Process Session, all adult students have access to an immersive dance experience that will cultivate the depth and expression of dance in intimate contact with our world-class faculty. Both sessions feature conversation and discussion with Alonzo King.

The LINES Dance Center Adult Summer Intensive sessions run Thursday through Sunday over the first two weekends in June:

The Technical Foundations Session, June 1 - 4, offers beginning through intermediate dancers over 20 hours of foundational technique classes in ballet and modern, a movement explorations Master Class to engage embodied creativity, access to LINES history and philosophy, and classes in LINES repertoire. Additionally, this session includes somatics every day for strength building, body awareness, and healthy muscle patterning, Technical Foundations is for dancers to focus with dedication on establishing solid technique through supportive relationships with teachers and find individual movement expression in the process.

The following weekend, the Composition & Process Session, June 8 - 11, offers daily classes in ballet, modern, and composition and creative process. This session also includes somatics, improvisation, and LINES repertoire. Dancers are challenged to strengthen and apply their technique through working intimately with teachers in creative movement experimentation and composition methods. Composition & Process is for those interested in increasing both physical and creative skills, building a choreographic toolbox, and cultivating and expanding artistic intelligence.

The LINES Dance Center Adult Summer Intensive is integral to the mission of LINES Ballet and the philosophy and approach of Alonzo King. It is designed based on the principle that every dancer, professional or not, can enjoy and voice their own individual vitality and express their unique energy of dance and creativity.

The foundation of the intensive is sequential ballet and technical training from LINES Dance Center’s ballet faculty. The intensive offers a holistic approach to dance training, integrating technical training with somatic practices for strength, alignment, and body-awareness, and the support of each individual’s creative and artistic intelligence. Unique to a LINES training experience, dancers in the Adult Summer Intensive will dance through a multi-faceted approach of rigorous ballet and modern technique, somatics, movement investigations, performance philosophies, critical thinking, composition, choreographic tools, and LINES repertoire wed with artistry, ritual, and individual expression.
